My wife is Thai, and she kept nodding along, saying, yes, that’s how it really is. You can tell Mike Holt actually lived there. That kind of authenticity you can’t fake.
I read a lot of historical fiction, and most of it feels recycled. Constantine stood out because the main character is someone I’d never heard of. A Greek guy becoming a top minister in old Siam? That’s wild. The research clearly went deep, but it never feels like a textbook. Just a solid adventure story with real bones.
My husband bought this for me because he knows I love anything with exotic settings. I finished it in four days. The chapters are short and punchy, which I appreciate because I read before bed. Always one more chapter, then another. Constantine’s journey from that poor kid on a Greek island to where he ends up, just incredible.
